Sharjah: In Sharjah, drivers who pay their fines early can receive a discount of up to 35% on their traffic tickets.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Sharjah Executive Council on Tuesday, which was presided over by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the vice chairman of the council and deputy ruler of Sharjah.

Starting on April 1, 2023, the reductions will be put into effect.

As per the announcement, a discount of 35% will be applied if the payment is made within 60 days of the violation’s date. In this instance, the discount covers both the fine and any associated impoundment costs.

However, motorists will receive a 25% discount on the fine if it is paid between 60 days and a year after the violation. Here, only the fine amount is subject to this deduction. Any applicable impoundment fees should be paid in full.

If paid after a year from the date the traffic violation was committed, no discounts will be given on fines or costs.

The action attempts to encourage drivers to pay fines promptly and prevent the possibility of debt accumulation.

In October, Abu Dhabi initiated its own 35% discount for traffic fines paid within 60 days.

Last year, Sharjah provided a 50% discount for traffic offences that occurred before December 1. In honour of the UAE’s 51st National Day, the programme was in effect for 51 days.

In the UAE, police forces frequently provide discounts for the payment of traffic penalties. In December, the police in Abu Dhabi, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain all provided discounts of up to 50%. In general, drivers wait for police departments in various Emirates to occasionally announce discounts on fines.

However, the discounts provided in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi will be valid for this whole calendar year.
