‘Thunderstorm’, Waterlogging in UAE

Sharjah: It rained heavily throughout the UAE on Tuesday.  Unexpectedly heavy rain with thunder was received in most places.

According to meteorologists, Dubai also received rain in continuation of the heavy rain that fell in the northern emirates in the last few days.  Even though the winter has officially started, the people are still suffering from the heat.

Therefore, people shared pictures and videos of the unexpected rain on social media.  Dubai Karama, Khizais, Al Nahda, Muhaisina, Al Warsan, World Trade Center, Marina etc. and Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Khuwain and Fujairah were all submerged in rain and water.

At the same time, the unexpected rain has also affected people’s lives.  The road was waterlogged and the traffic jam was severe.  Various parts of Sharjah were submerged in water and traffic was blocked for several hours as vehicles could not move forward.

The municipality took a long time to remove the water dam.  Passengers said it took three to four hours to reach Sharjah from Dubai due to traffic jams.  Due to the rain, traffic jams were experienced in Sharjah since afternoon.

In most of the emirates, school children came home very late.  In many parts of the shops and other big business centers, water was seeping from the road.

Light rain was recorded at Dubai and Sharjah International Airports, while heavy rain was recorded at Ajman, Umm Al Khuwain, Fujairah and Khor fakkan.  Orange alerts were issued by the National Meteorological Center in Dubai and Ajman on Tuesday afternoon.  Residents were advised to be cautious and stay away from areas prone to floods and landslides.
